Tractor Implements
Tractors have replaced horses as the main form of pulling and pushing in agricultural activities. They have, of course, more power and can pull much heavier loads, allowing them to pull several types of plows with ease. And of course, they allow us to leave horses alone and avoid animal cruelty.
Nevertheless, with time and technology advancements, tractors have become more than pulling machines. They’ve gained a lot of versatility and variety that allows them to work in other, very different areas. They have become very useful in landscaping, constriction sites, handling of materials, trenching, gardening, livestock activities, etc.
While many tractors are designed with one or two functions in mind, most of them can be easily upgraded with tractor implements in order to perform additional tasks. Even if a tractor in particular doesn’t have capacity for new upgrades, all tractors can pull pretty much any kind of load.
There are many kinds of tractor implements. Some of them allow the tractor to improve its performance, while others allow it to do something new. Here is a non exhaustive list of tractor implements that you can get in most stores.
Backhoe loader. The backhoe loader is one of the most common and used tractor implements there are. This implement consists in a digging bucket at the end of a mechanical arm that consists of two parts. It’s great for excavating, and although some tractors already come with one in the back, most of them can use a backhoe instrument at the front.
Box blades. This type of tractor implements is very easy to install and it doesn’t require additional power from the tractor, although some new models can use hydraulics for small adjustments made from the seat. The box, which has no top, bottom or front, has several blades that, when pulled, are used for smoothing and contouring land. Thus, they prepare an area for further landscaping or even planting.
Fertilizer spreaders. These tractor implements not only spread fertilizer, but also any other materials with the same consistency. There are many models, but most of them consist on a container that drops the fertilizer at a on a spinning disk. This type of tractor implements is very valuable in farms and areas where there are plenty of plants growing.
Mowers. Yes, this type of tractor implements is what you think it is. It’ll keep your lawn cut and nice. Of course, they can only be used in very extensive areas, like golf courses, parks, or really big parks, where a tractor can also have other uses and the investment is justified. Otherwise, a regular lawnmower is enough to do the job.
