John Deere Tractor
You know how there are cars, and then there are real cars? Well, it’s the same thing with tractors. There are tractors, and then there’s the John Deere tractor. A John Deere tractor is synonym of quality, endurance, guarantee and service. It’s no wonder some people call it “the Cadillac of tractors,” in order to reflect its great quality and image. Its competition usually tries to pass the John Deere tractor as an expensive machine; however, the difference in quality is very noticeable and significant. Besides, a machine isn’t really cheap despite its price if it breaks down every now and then and you have to spend money on repairs and spare parts (which may be difficult to find). With a John Deere tractor, you won’t have to worry about spending extra money (or valuable time) because of a sudden breakdown of your machine.
The John Deere tractor is manufactured by Deere and Company, although it’s known more commonly as the John Deere company. It’s also very well known for its pattern of painting all John Deere tractors in green and yellow, as well as buy its deer logo, and its slogan “Nothing runs like a Deere.”
However, the story of the company goes back to 1837, when John Deere worked as a blacksmith in Illinois. It was then where he saw that ploughs had problems handling the clay terrain of the farms. He then designed a plough made of polished steel and with correctly shaped forms that could handle that kind of terrain. Previous ploughs were made of non-polished iron and weren’t very effective. It was never clear how John Deere obtained the inspiration for this invention, although one theory mentions his observation of polished steel needled that were sharpened by running them through sand. Other theory sustains that he got the inspiration from watching pitchforks handle hay and soil.
In any case, John Deere’s new plough proved to be an immense success. It was also the first cast-steel plough and the model would be bought and copied all over the world with the years. In the meantime, John Deere couldn’t keep up with demand.
Eventually, in 1868, John made his business a company: the Deere and Company. John Deere died in 1886, but the company he founded grew up to be today’s biggest producer of agricultural equipment in the world. The company went through a lot of changes and innovations in its products, out of which the John Deere tractors is the most famous. However, the basic idea of John Deere is still valid in every John Deere tractor: “I will never put my name on a product that does not have in it the best that is in me.” This tradition of quality has made John Deere tractors the best tractors in the industry for more than 150 years.
